Dr. Tawheed Hashem received a Bachelor of Science in Biophysics (2004) from Al-Azhar University and
a Master of Science degree in biomaterial science and tissue engineering (2008) from the National Research Center (NRC)
efore moving to Germany to complete his PhD at the University of Heidelberg in Physical Chemistry.

After completing his PhD, he did postdoctoral research (2015 - 2017) in the Department of Chemistry of Oxidic and Organic Interfaces
at the Institute of Functional Interface (IFG), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). 

Since 2018 he became a scientific group leader at the same institute (IFG).

Simultaneously with being the leader of his research group, in 2021 Dr. Hashem became the vice director of KIT-innovation HUB. 

Main areas of activity:

His main research interest is on the designed synthesis of new metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) surface-mounted metal-organic frameworks (SURMOFs) toward energy and environmental applications.
Due to his exceptional research outcomes, Dr. Tawheed became a scientific advisor to several companies in the Middle East.
His future work is directed to the commercialization of smart materials and technology transfer.
